value to your investment

Whether you’re investing to call Azzura Square home for you and your family, or you’re an individual or corporation investing in your future, the people of the Pilbara and South Hedland make exemplary neighbours and tenants.

BHP, Fortescue, Health WA, and Government Regional Housing are just some of the big names with a continuing need for quality homes for their teams.

As of June 2023, the top employing sectors in the Pilbara region were mining at 52%, construction at 11% and accommodation at 5%. The region offered approximately 60,000 jobs and had an unemployment rate of just 1.8%.

BP renewable and green hydrogen project

In 2023, the Western Australian Government announced the approved allocation of land to British oil and gas company BP to develop a renewable and green hydrogen project. With an estimated value of at $53 Billion, the project will be developed by BP through the Australian Renewable Energy Hub Initiative (AREH) and will comprise up to 26 GW of onshore wind and solar power generating capacity, and at full capacity, is expected to produce about 1.6 Mt/year of green hydrogen or 9 Mt/year of green ammonia.

Construction is expected to commence in 2026, with the first hydrogen exports in 2027-28.

Engie and POSCO green hydrogen
project and green iron processing plant

Global energy giant Engie and South Korean steelmaker POSCO have agreed to work together on a major green hydrogen project in Port Hedland.

The project – potentially comprising wind, solar, electrolysers and pipelines – will supply a hot briquettes iron (HBI) plant producing green iron.

With an estimated value of $27 million, the HBI plant would use liquefied natural gas to reduce magnetite iron ore to pellets then into HBI for shipping to South Korea for use in steelmaking. Longer term, the company would look to replace gas with green hydrogen to reduce carbon emissions.

Under current plans, the project would be made up of six stages, each producing 2 million tonnes of hot briquetted iron and employing up to 2,500 construction workers with 400 ongoing operational jobs.
